STAR WARS SPECIAL

Today is International Star Wars day.  Exactly 33 years, 11 months and 9 days ago on the 25th of May 1977 movie culture change forever.  A young Warner Brothers scholar by the name of George Lucas released the first instalment of the Trilogy to come - STAR WARS A NEW HOPE episode IV - the movie went on to break all box office records and earned seven academy awards, It redefined the term "blockbuster".

A NEW HOPE IV

EMPIRE STRIKES BACK V

RETURN OF THE JEDI VI

STAR WARS instantly became a pop culture phenomenon which I am proud to be one of the millions of fans through out the Galaxy.  This day is the unofficial holiday for fans to celebrate culture and remember the Fictional galaxy, Robotic droids, Space travel, Republic, Mind control, Hero's, Villains, Betrayal, Jedi, Sith, Hatred and one of the most infamous Love stories of all time.

Today reminds me of where I'm from and who I have become, STAR WARS was such a big part of my life growing up that I have learnt to except it is impossible to drift apart from the energy field created by all living things that surround us, Penetrates and binds the galaxy together - The Force.  Growing up my mother tailor made me my very own Luke Skywalker outfit with rebel alliance patches sewn on the sleeve and chest - I would watch the trilogy in an old washing basket - my X-wing fighter (pictured)

Here are my Heros -

Luke Sky Walker - Mark Hamill

At 19 an innocent Luke finds two droids - C3PO & R2D2 and without knowing he has stepped towards his destiny.  Luke goes on to meet Obi-Wan Kenobi an old Jedi master and follows him into the Galaxy.  Three years later Luke is a commander in the Rebel Alliance and undergoes Jedi training, increasing his power in the force.  Mark Hamill's voice can be heard in almost every video game or cartoon you can think of.

Han Solo - Harrison Ford

A notorious smuggler with a bounty on his head reluctantly becomes involved in the Rebel Alliance, saves a princess and is pilot of the fastest ship in the galaxy - The Millennium Falcon.   A scoundrel once claiming he was 'only in it for the money' fell into a hero role after being rewarded a Medal of Freedom.  Harrison went onto play a similar type role - Indiana Jones and is to be the only member of cast not to have their acting career effected by the STAR WARS role.

Princess Leia - Carrie Fischer

A leader in the Alliance, a former member of the Imperial Senate and a member of the Royal Family of Alderaan.  Tortured on the Deathstar and forced to watch her home planet's destruction,  Leia escapes Vaders custody with a little help from friends, Leia and Han eventually fall for one another a range of love hate tension.  She is every males ultimate Star Wars fantasy.

Lando Calrissian - Billy Dee Williams

Cardplayer and fellow scoundrel just like old pal Han.  Lando deals with Bounty hunters, outlaws and gangsters on a daily basis, He is incredibly badass and to our knowledge the only blackman in the Galaxy.

C-3P0 - Anthony Daniels    R2D2 - Kenny Baker

The only 2 actors to be in all on the STAR WARS movies (including I, II and III)
Baker who stands 3 ft 8 inside the R2D2 robot frame also plays - Paploo, the Ewok who steals an Imperial speeder bike. Baker was originally set to play Wicket (main ewok), but fell ill and the role was handed over.   Daniels on the other hand self admittedly was never a science fiction fan and before his role as C-3PO he has said the only sci-fi film he had ever seen was 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968. He was so dissatisfied with the movie that he walked out after only ten minutes and demanded his money back.

Darth Vader - David Prowse  Voice - Earl Jones

Vader is depicted as the cunning, brutal enforcer of the Galactic Empire's rule across the galaxy. Vader serves as the apprentice of Emperor Palpatine, using the dark side of the Force to mercilessly pursue the Jedi and the Rebel Alliance to the ends of the galaxy.

Weather you have seen the movies or not Darth Vader is a house hold name and is most well known for this scene -

Chewbacca - Pete Mayhew

An immense, fur covered warrior of great strength and loyalty, Chewbacca the Wookiee was a well-known figure in both the underworld and in the Rebel Alliance, Chewie and Han are like brothers and make great partners in crime. Pete stands a tall 7 ft 3 in (2.21 m) and had the choice of playing Vader or the roaring wookie.

I love chewie.

Obi Won Kenobi - Alec Guinness  Yoda - Frank Oz

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi Knight, and a major character in the Star Wars saga. He is one of only four characters; the others being Anakin Skywaker, C-3PO and R2-D2; who appears in all six films. Obi-Wan acts as a mentor to Anakin Skywalker and his son Luke Skywalker.  At the young age of 900 Yoda is Jedi boot camp instructor for a young impatient Luke Skywalker, Powerful master Jedi he is.

These character could be played by no-one else, but they almost were -

Imagine that - Escape from Deathstar.

The Living Force Of Creation is always with me, I am a Jedi.
